What Channel Is the History Channel on Fios
Verizon Fios TV Service Review 2021
Verizon Fios is only available in nine states, but if you live in the area, Fios is a great no-contract option
Published on November 17, 2021
Verizon Fios is a fiber-optic TV service that is speedy and reliable. It also gives you a personalization feature, making it stand out from the rest.
The new personalization process on the Your Fios TV package includes picking your top five channels, and Verizon recommends a channel lineup that'll be perfect for you. We like the idea of being in control of what we watch, and without an annual contract.
The only real downside is that it's only available in a few eastern states.
Pros
-
Verizon Fios has no annual contract
-

-

How much does Verizon Fios cost?
Verizon gives you a high channel count so everyone in the family has something to watch. The Your Fios TV plan, for instance, gives you a recommended channel lineup of more than 125 channels, and it's tailored to your preferences.
More Fios TV and The Most Fios TV plans don't offer personalization, but you'll get access to a whopping 300 or 425 channels! (That's one of the highest channel counts in the TV industry).
For a reasonable price, you can personalize your services with a TV plan, internet service, and home phone line. Who wouldn't mind the simplicity of one bill?

What's Your Fios TV?
This is the only plan that is customizable. You can personalize your TV package by picking five of your favorite channels from about 200. Then Verizon recommends a package based on your favorites, and you'll be able to see a preview of your channel lineup before you order!
And no matter what channels you choose, you'll still get the major broadcast networks, like ABC, CBS, CW, FOX, MyNet, NBC, Telemundo, and Univision. You can also change your five favorite channels every month, free of charge.
Does Verizon Fios have an annual contract?
Nope. Nada. No annual contract here.
Does Verizon Fios have hidden fees?
Verizon Fios doesn't have any broadcast or sports fees like most satellite and cable TV services do. But it does have a DVR, Fios router, and an additional set-top box fee, and that's it.
So, if you want the Your Fios TV plan, a set-top box in the TV room and one in your bedroom along with multi-room DVR service. You'll have to budget for $45 worth of fees per month. Honestly, it's hard to get away from fees like this when it comes to a satellite or cable TV company, but Verizon's fees list is one of the shortest in the industry.
Does Verizon Fios have fees?
Fee | Price |
---|---|
First set-top box | Included |
Additional set-top box | $12.00/mo. each |
Fios router | $15.00/mo. or buy for $300 |
DVR (50-hour HD storage) | $0.00–12.00/mo. |
Multi-room DVR-Enhanced (100-hour HD storage) | $8.00–20.00/mo. |
Multi-room DVR Premium Service (200-hour HD storage) | $18.00–30.00/mo. |
Data effective 11/17/2021.
The first set-top box is included in all of the Fios plans. But not all of the plans are treated the same when it comes to the DVR service.
The customizable Your Fios TV plan comes with higher DVR fees. You'll have to fork over $12 for 50 hours of DVR storage, $20 for 100, and $30 for 200.
If you upgrade, the 50-hour DVR storage is included in The More Fios TV and Most Fios TV plans. Or you only have to pay $8 for 100 hours of DVR storage and $18 for 200.
If you're living in a full home, the multi-room enhanced DVR service lets you save 100 HD hours or 500 SD hours for up to five TVs. You can also record up to six TV shows or movies at once. No more family conflicts.
You'll save money if you get four set-top boxes for the family and pay $30 per month. Each set-top box is 4K compatible and comes with a voice remote, so you can easily say "turn on NFL Network".
As for the router, you'll get a free router rental if you bundle with Fios' gigabit internet. If you order internet with less than gigabit speeds or just a TV plan, you'll have to rent a Fios router for $15 per month or buy it for $300.
Purchasing the router will pay off if you plan on keeping Fios internet for at least two years.
Can I buy my own router for Verizon Fios internet?
You can. However, Verizon suggests you get one of their routers to receive all of the benefits to your services, as Verizon only installs and supports Verizon-branded routers. (This sounds eerily similar to Apple).
And the few last steps at checkout include a few add-ons. You can add security and protection to your internet service:
- Verizon Protect Home: You get 24/7 tech support, and digital security and protection for your Verizon products ($25/mo.)
- Home Device Advisor: You also get 24/7 tech support along with two in-home visits for your connected home products ($15/mo.)
- Inside Wire Maintenance: Covers repair costs for damaged wiring and jacks ($15/mo.)
You can also choose to add unlimited cloud storage for up to five users to backup your music, videos, and photos on your computer and phone. And Verizon lets you try it out for 30 days before billing you the $20 per month.

- New York
- Maryland
- Massachusetts
- Pennsylvania
- Rhode Island
- Virginia

Which devices is Verizon Fios compatible with?
The minute you sign up for Fios TV, you can instantly stream from the Fios TV mobile app on your device. So watch the new episode of Criminal Minds while you're waiting in a long line. Possibly the line to return the not-so-cute sweater your grandmother bought you for your birthday. (Sorry, Grandma.)
Verizon Fios's streaming app is compatible with the following devices:
- iOS devices running iOS 12 and higher.
- Android devices running Android 5.0 and higher.
- Amazon Kindle and Fire devices running Android 5.0 and higher.
- Chromecast (First Generation, Second Generation, Third Generation and Ultra)
How much is the Verizon Fios DVR?
DVR may or may not be included, depending on the plan you choose
Verizon Fios TV's DVR and set-top box come with 4K capability, a voice remote, 50–200 HD recording hours, and 2–12 simultaneous streams. Additional set-top boxes make it possible for you to watch TV anywhere in the house.
Depending on your plan, the 50-hour DVR storage plan could be included.
Fios TV set-top box details
Plan | Equipment |
---|---|
Your Fios TV | First set-top box included, DVR not included |
More Fios TV | First set-top box included, Basic DVR included |
The Most Fios TV | First set-top box included, Basic DVR included |
The More Fios and Most Fios TV plans automatically comes with a 500 GB DVR that can record up to 50 HD or 100 SD hours. That's enough space to record 25 episodes of America's Got Talent and six movies in HD.
If you want more DVR hours for the whole family to record on up to five TVs in your home, there are two multi-room options.
Fios's DVR recording and storage options
DVR | Price | DVR hours | Simultaneous recordings |
---|---|---|---|
DVR (standard) | $0.00–12.00/mo. | 50 HD hrs. | 2 |
Multi-room DVR-Enhanced | $8.00–$20.00/mo. | 100 HD or 200 SD hrs. | 6 |
Multi-room DVR Premium Service | $18.00–$30.00/mo. | 200 HD or 400 SD hrs. | 12 |
Date effective 11/17/2021.
If you choose the Your Fios TV plan because you like the idea of personalized TV, you'll just have to pay a little extra for the DVR. The $12, $20, and $30 price tags is what you'll be facing.
And keep your budget in mind if you need more than one set-top box for the fam. You can get four set-top boxes for $30 per month if you'd like one in your family room, bedroom, and both of your kids bedrooms.
Oh, and the family can enjoy an integrated Netflix app on Verizon's set-top box. So when you're done watching Let's Make a Deal, you can switch over to Netlflix for Schitt's Creek.
Another Verizon and Apple comparison
You can only program and manage your DVR online or from your compatible smartphone. This means if you have a compatible smartphone and wireless data plan with Verizon, then and only then, can you manage your DVR from outside of your home.
Recap: Is Verizon Fios TV worth it?
